31 Days of Journaling Prompts for a Fresh Start in 2025

As a young girl, I fell in love with words and storytelling after buying my first diary from the school book fair. Journaling about my day eventually led to me writing short stories in my notebooks in middle school and eventually starting a professional blogging career post-graduate school. Aside from honing my literary skills, as I entered college journaling became a form of therapy. Writing out all my thoughts and emotions really helped me get through some tough times as I blossomed into adulthood.

I still maintain a journal today, even though most of my entires are digital.

I love having the ability to go back to an old journal and read through life events because it helps me see my personal growth and put things into proper perspective.

To be quite honest, 2024 was not the best year for me. My family and I experienced some difficult hardships, including saying our forever goodbyes to loved ones that we cherished. I didn’t journal as much as I should have and fell into depressive episodes pretty frequently.

I’ve decided that in 2025, I’m getting back to the basics and that includes a quick daily journaling session to manage feelings of overwhelm and stress.

Journaling has been extensively studied for its positive effects on mental health. A study involving individuals with various medical conditions and elevated anxiety levels found that those who engaged in online journaling for 15 minutes, three days a week over 12 weeks, experienced increased well-being and fewer depressive symptoms after just one month.
